When someone in Noakhali needs a tailor, a pharmacy, a coaching centre or a computer repair shop, the first thing they do is search on their phone. If your business does not appear on the first page of Google, that customer goes to a competitor who does. Search engine optimisation (SEO) is how you get there. This guide explains SEO for small business in Bangladesh in plain language: how to find the right keywords in Bangla and English, how to set up Google Business Profile, how to optimise your website and how to build local trust — without needing a big budget.
What SEO really means for a small business
SEO is the work of making your website and online presence easy for Google to understand and trust, so it shows you when people search for what you sell. For a small business, SEO has three parts:
- Local SEO — appearing in Google Maps and the "map pack" for searches like "pharmacy near me" or "computer shop Maijdee".
- On-page SEO — making each page of your website clearly about one topic, with the right words, headings and information.
- Authority — other websites, directories and customers talking about and linking to you, which tells Google you are real and trusted.
SEO takes time. You usually see the first results after a few weeks and stronger results after several months. But unlike paid ads, the traffic does not stop when you stop paying.
Step 1: Find the keywords your customers actually use
Keywords are the words people type into Google. In Bangladesh, people search in three ways, and you need to cover all of them:
- English: "web design company in Noakhali", "best restaurant in Maijdee";
- Bangla: "নোয়াখালীতে ওয়েবসাইট তৈরি", "মাইজদীতে ভালো রেস্টুরেন্ট";
- Banglish (Bangla in English letters): "noakhali te website banano", "dokan software".
How to find keywords for free
- Google autocomplete: type the start of a search and note the suggestions.
- "People also ask" and "Related searches" at the bottom of Google results.
- Ask your customers what they searched before they found you.
- Google Search Console: once your site is connected, it shows the exact searches that already bring visitors.
- Look at competitors who rank on page one and see which words they use in titles and headings.
Choose keywords with clear buying intent and a location, for example "AC servicing in Noakhali" rather than just "AC". Local keywords have less competition and bring customers who are ready to buy.
Step 2: Set up and optimise Google Business Profile
For a local business, Google Business Profile is often more important than the website itself. It is free, and it controls how you appear in Google Maps and the local results.
- Create or claim your profile at business.google.com and verify it.
- Choose the most accurate main category, plus a few secondary categories.
- Add your exact address, a correct map pin, phone number, website and opening hours.
- Write a helpful description of your services, naturally including your main keywords and area.
- Upload real photos: shop front, inside, products, team. Add new photos regularly.
- Add your products or services with short descriptions.
- Post updates and offers from time to time.
- Ask happy customers for reviews, and reply politely to every review — good or bad.
Keep your business name, address and phone number exactly the same everywhere: on your website, Facebook page, Google profile and directories. We explain this in more detail in how to put your Noakhali business on Google Maps.
Step 3: Get the on-page SEO basics right
Each important page of your website should target one main keyword. For example, a page about "school website design in Noakhali" and a separate page about "e-commerce website design".
Title tag and meta description
The title is the blue line people see on Google. Put the main keyword near the beginning, add your location, and keep it under about 60 characters. The meta description (about 150–160 characters) should explain the benefit and invite a click.
Headings and content
- Use one main heading (H1) that includes the keyword.
- Use subheadings (H2, H3) to organise the page.
- Answer the questions customers really ask: price range, process, time, location, guarantees.
- Write naturally. Repeating the keyword too many times looks spammy to Google and to readers.
- Add a short Bangla summary if many of your customers read Bangla.
Images
Compress images so pages load quickly, give image files descriptive names and add alt text that describes the picture.
Internal links
Link related pages together. A blog post about hosting should link to your hosting page; your home page should link to every main service. This helps Google understand which pages are most important.
Step 4: Make your website fast and mobile-friendly
Most Bangladeshi visitors browse on mobile data. Google ranks websites mainly based on their mobile version, and slow sites lose rankings and customers. Test your site on Google PageSpeed Insights, use fast hosting, compress images and avoid heavy sliders and unnecessary plugins. Make sure phone numbers are clickable and buttons are easy to tap.
Step 5: Technical basics
- SSL (https) on every page;
- XML sitemap submitted to Google Search Console;
- No broken pages — fix or redirect 404 errors;
- Clean URLs such as /school-website-design instead of /page?id=123;
- Structured data (schema) for your business, FAQs and articles, so Google can show rich results.
Step 6: Build local links and mentions
Links from other trusted websites act like recommendations. For a local business, good sources are:
- local business directories and Bangladeshi listing sites;
- suppliers, partners and associations you belong to;
- local news portals that cover your events, openings or community work;
- sponsorships of local schools, sports clubs or events;
- your social media profiles — Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn — all linking to your website.
Avoid buying cheap "1000 backlinks" packages. These low-quality links can harm your rankings.
Step 7: Publish helpful content regularly
Blog posts and guides let you rank for many more searches than your service pages alone. Write about the questions customers ask you every day: "How much does it cost?", "Which is better?", "How long does it take?". One genuinely helpful article per month is better than many thin ones. Share every new article on your Facebook page too.
Step 8: Measure and improve
Connect Google Search Console and Google Analytics. Every month, check which pages get impressions and clicks, which keywords are close to page one, and which pages have high bounce rates. Improve the pages that are almost ranking — this is often the quickest win.
Common SEO mistakes small businesses make
- One page trying to rank for every service;
- Copying text from competitors' websites;
- No address or phone number on the website;
- Different business names and numbers on different platforms;
- Ignoring reviews;
- Expecting results in one week and giving up.
Frequently asked questions
How long does SEO take to work?
For local searches with little competition, you may see movement within a few weeks. Competitive keywords usually take several months of consistent work.
Should my website be in Bangla or English?
Ideally both. Use the language most of your customers search in for main content, and add a summary in the other language so you can rank for both.
Can I do SEO myself?
Yes, the basics in this guide can be done by any business owner. For competitive keywords or to save time, a professional SEO service can speed things up.
Is Facebook enough, or do I need a website for SEO?
Facebook is great for engagement, but Google ranks websites and Google Business Profiles. A website you own gives you long-term visibility that a Facebook page alone cannot.
