Approve the confirmation email if one arrives; most transfers complete within about 5–7 days.
Checklist before you start
Most failed transfers come down to one of these points. Check them first and the process is usually smooth.
The 60-day rule
Under ICANN rules, a gTLD such as .com usually cannot be transferred within 60 days of registration or a previous transfer, and some registrars apply the same lock after an owner change.
Valid admin email
The owner email on the domain should be one you can open, because approval or notice emails are sent there.
Not expired
Transfer before the expiry date. An expired domain may need to be renewed at the current registrar first.
Domain unlocked
The registrar lock must be off for the transfer to begin; it can be turned back on afterwards.
Privacy and contact
If WHOIS privacy hides your email, the current provider can still send the code to your account email.
Keep DNS records
If your current provider also runs your DNS, we copy the records before the switch so nothing breaks.
Transferring a .com.bd or other .bd domain
Bangladesh domains work differently. They are managed by BTCL, which runs the .bd registry, and they do not use EPP codes in the same way as .com. Moving a .com.bd to a new provider is usually handled through the registry’s own paperwork — typically a request from the registered owner, with supporting documents such as the NID or trade licence that were used for the original registration.

In many cases, the simplest option is to keep the .com.bd where it is and just change its nameservers to point to us, which moves your website and email without a registry transfer at all.

Will my website go down during the transfer?
No — not if the transfer is handled carefully. A domain transfer changes which company you pay for the domain, not where it points. As long as the nameservers and DNS records stay the same, visitors and email continue to reach the same server during and after the move.
Problems usually happen when the old provider was also hosting your DNS and deletes it once the domain leaves. To avoid that, we copy every record — website, email (MX), verification records for Google or Facebook — before the transfer completes, and we check them again afterwards. Once the domain is with us, you can move your hosting whenever it suits you, or keep the hosting where it is. There is no requirement to move both at once.

What is an EPP or auth code?+
It is a password for your domain issued by the current registrar. The new registrar needs it to start the transfer and prove you are the owner.
How long does a domain transfer take?+
For .com, .net and .org, usually around 5–7 days, and sometimes faster if the current registrar approves the transfer early.
Will I lose the time left on my domain?+
No. For .com and similar domains, the remaining time is kept and one year is added after a successful transfer.
Why can’t I transfer a domain I registered last month?+
Registries usually block transfers for 60 days after a new registration or a previous transfer. You can still point it to our hosting during that time.
Can you transfer a .com.bd domain?+
.bd domains follow BTCL’s own process rather than EPP codes. We check the current requirements for your domain and handle the paperwork with you.
